App Store and Google Play screenshot sizes (2026)
Updated October 2026, from Apple’s and Google’s own documentation.
- App Store: one set of iPhone screenshots at 1320 × 2868 pixels, plus iPad screenshots at 2064 × 2752 if your app runs on iPad. Apple scales them down for every smaller device.
- Google Play: at least 2 phone screenshots (1080 × 1920 is a safe choice, and 4 or more make you eligible for Play’s recommendations) and a 1024 × 500 feature graphic.
- No transparency in any of them: export JPEG or PNG without an alpha channel.
App Store screenshots
You can upload 1 to 10 screenshots per language, as .jpeg, .jpg or .png. For landscape screenshots, swap the width and height. Apple only requires the largest size for each device family and scales those down for smaller screens.
| Display | Portrait size (pixels) | Needed? |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 6.9″ | 1320 × 2868, 1290 × 2796 or 1260 × 2736 | Required for iPhone apps (or 6.5″ instead) |
| iPhone 6.5″ | 1284 × 2778 or 1242 × 2688 | Only if you don’t provide 6.9″ |
| iPad 13″ | 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732 | Required if your app runs on iPad |
| Smaller iPhones and iPads | Various | Optional: Apple scales your larger screenshots |
Screenshots can’t contain an alpha channel or transparency, which trips up many design tools: App Store Connect may reject a PNG with an alpha channel even if nothing in it is transparent. Apple also offers a 5.5″ size (1242 × 2208) and a 12.9″ iPad size (2048 × 2732) if you want to control how older devices look.
The first screenshots do most of the work, because the App Store shows them in search results before anyone opens your page. Lead with your strongest feature and keep headlines short enough to read at thumbnail size.
App Store app previews (video)
| Device | Portrait | Landscape |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 6.9″ | 886 × 1920 | 1920 × 886 |
| iPad 13″ | 1200 × 1600 | 1600 × 1200 |
- Up to 3 previews per language, each 15 to 30 seconds long.
- Up to 30 frames per second, as .mov, .m4v or .mp4, up to 500 MB.
- H.264 at 10–12 Mbps (or ProRes 422 HQ), with stereo 256 kbps AAC audio at 44.1 or 48 kHz.
- Apple’s review guidelines say previews may only use screen captures of the app itself, with narration and text overlays allowed, so leave out device frames, hands and other footage.
Google Play screenshots
| Rule | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Count | At least 2 to publish, up to 8 per device type |
| Format | JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no transparency |
| Size | Each side 320 to 3840 pixels, and the long side no more than twice the short side |
| Recommendations | At least 4 screenshots of 1080 pixels or more to appear in Play’s large-format recommendations |
| Tablets and Chromebooks | At least 4 screenshots, 1080 to 7680 pixels, in 9:16 portrait or 16:9 landscape |
A 1080 × 1920 portrait screenshot meets every phone rule and the recommendation threshold. For tablets, 1440 × 2560 keeps the 9:16 ratio Google asks for.
Google Play feature graphic, icon and video
- Feature graphic: 1024 × 500 pixels, JPEG or 24-bit PNG without transparency. You need one to publish. It’s also the cover image for your promo video.
- App icon: 512 × 512 pixels, 32-bit PNG, up to 1024 KB.
- Promo video: a YouTube link to a single video (not a playlist or channel), set to public or unlisted, with ads turned off.
Making them
ShotPass exports every size above from one design: iPhone 6.9″, iPad 13″, Google Play phone and tablet screenshots and the feature graphic, as PNGs without an alpha channel and sorted into a folder per size and language. It also turns a screen recording into an App Store app preview and a Google Play promo video. Designing is free; a pass for $9 removes the watermark for a week.
